In just a few days, on the 16th of September, Selected Sounds will take a huge step forward as a record label releasing its first compilation Budapest Selected. The artists featured on the collection include iamyank, Volkova Sisters, mïus, 9b0, yvein monq and surfalone, which in itself already promises a wide spectrum of sounds.
Selected Sounds’s first release was iamyank’s full length, titled Hiraeth so it came naturally to include the artist that is so important for the label on Budapest Selected as well. Silence Pt. 2, a song written specifically for this compilation, is the continuation of one of Hiraeth’s songs which showcases iamyank’s wonderfully airy, narrative-driven style.
Another song uniquely composed for Budapest Selected is by yvein monq aka Gryllus Ábris, who is also the graphic designer of NVC and Selected Sounds. MOM is a robust footwork song hiding under a pitch-black hoodie that will never disappoint.
Mystique is also an important feature in Volkova Sisters’s Taksony, where Berger Dalma’s singular voice is paired with acoustic guitars, organic synth sounds and intimate field recordings. The trio reached new heights in its career by completing its first album, Blood Shapes This Faith.
Surfalone is a new project that debuts with its first song on Budapest Selected. Halszív goes back to the generation’s teenage years and reshapes a song by cult Hungarian indie-rock band Kispál és a Borz released in 1992. The cover version keeps the original’s main characteristics and recontextualizes it with electropop tools and Döbrös Laura’s singing.
Precious Moments, a song by mïus also represents a similar style, although with much less typically Hungarian features. It is definitely one of the most promising singles of the year, graced by Hegyi Dóri’s enchanting vocals.
9b0’s Through is a masterfully sculpted, engaging song giving us a first look into the world of Eleven, the artist’s second album that is about to be released in November on Selected Sounds.
The six-track-long release will offer a high-definition snapshot of the artists close to Selected Sounds as well as the creative scene of the city while it also outlines the label’s ambitious future plans. Keep an eye on Selected Sounds to find out about future releases. The compilation will be out on Beatport, iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Deezer & pendrive.
